What the heck are tail enders, you might be thinking?
Tail enders, according to EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Founder Gary Craig are the words and phrases that come after the positive thoughts for the day or affirmations.
For example: you might say, "I lose thirty pounds and feel great!" which can be both a positive thought for the day or an affirmation. However, when you say this, you don't believe it and actually think: "Who are you kidding? I can never lose thirty pounds. I'll always be overweight."
Gary says it is our inability to clear the tail enders that keep us from accomplishing are affirmations. I guess the same process implies for inspirational thoughts of the day, daily inspirational thoughts, and even our prayers.
Most people who believe in positive thinking may not really believe on a subconscious/unconscious level what they say they're believing. They force themselves to be positive and to think positive thoughts for the day because that is what society wants us to be: positive.
I totally agree that being positive is far superior than being negative. However, if we're faking being positive and have some emotional trauma or emotional wound that needs clearing and healing before we are truly positive, I suggest being honest, real and authentic.
There are some things we just can't fake. Our willpower is not as strong as our subconscious, which often is acting upon old, limiting and self-defeating habits and beliefs.
This is why it is so critical to clear out the tail enders, and by doing so, our positive thoughts for the day actually become powerful and positive.

Some famous positive thoughts for the day
"Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it."---Ernest Holmes
"Our thoughts and imaginations are the only real limits to our possibilities."
Orison S. Marden from The Life Your Spirits Quote Book by Allen Klein
"It is not the situation. It is your reaction to the situation."---Bob Conklin
Our reactions to situations are often robot-like because we haven't cleared emotional wounds that cause us to often react to life in a knee-jerk manner versus responding to life.
"I'm not afraid of storms for I'm learning how to sail my ship."---Louisa May Alcott
These positive thoughts for the day inspire us to think and behave and act differently in order to become more satisfied with our lives in some form or other.
Consider what M. Scott Peck has to say: "The quickest way to change your attitude toward pain is to accept the fact that everything that happens to us has been designed for our spiritual growth."
Thus, all our pain has a purpose: to wake us up, to show us where we need to change our angle of vision, to deepen our understanding of ourselves.
As we deepen our understanding of ourselves and grow to love and accept ourselves more and more, we can truly benefit by positive thoughts for the day because we can apply them to our own personal dramas and perhaps, with help and guidance, find more love and gratitude, more peace of mind, whatever our heart yearns for.
Think about your own experiences with positive thinking
