Male Body Language Can Be Such a Give Away - Whether Men Like to Admit it or Not!

Male body language will always give them away, but you can learn how to spot the tell-tale signs of a man who's interested in you so you'll never be left guessing again!

The Approach

If a man is interested, as he approaches you he will pull in his tummy, puff out his chest and stand taller. He’ll then start the preening!

Preening

This will take the form of:

  • Reaching for his throat and straightening his tie
  • Smoothing his collar
  • Brushing imaginary dust from his shoulder
  • Rearranging his shirt, cufflinks or other clothing
  • Smoothing his hair
  • Thumbs in belt

Some of the key signs that show he's interested

1) Hooking his thumbs in his belt
This highlights the genital region and says 'I'm virile'. (When used with other men this means they are staking their territory and showing that they're not afraid). Leaning towards you

2) Body positioning

Body positioning is critical. If he's interested he'll turn his body towards you. If you're standing or sitting in a group look at his feet, if one or both of them are pointing in your direction it's a good sign.

3) Holding your gaze

Holding your gaze for even just a split second longer than necessary, combined with dilated pupils, is a really good sign.

Look out for the eyes following the 'triangular formation':

  • eye to eye
  • then down to the mouth and chin
  • down to the rest of the body
  • and back up to the eyes again in a triangular formation.

This is not confined to male body language. Women are excellent at using the intimate gaze. (see female body language) - men are not and often don't even pick up on it when they're on the receiving end of one. A man's intimate gaze is generally quite obvious.

Female Body Language Will Always Give a Women Away - No Matter How Hard She Tries

With female body language,as with male body language, women display similar preening characteristics to men but often are a little more subtle than their male counterparts when used in flirting. Never-the-less there are additional signals to look out for which generally indicate an interest in the person they're talking to.

The Head Toss

Women do this to throw their hair back over their shoulders, attract attention and to show off their neck. The head toss is not exclusively for women with long hair and can still grab someone's attention when used by women with short hair.

Exposed wrists

If a woman is interested she will expose the smooth, soft skin on the inside of her wrists. She will also show the palms of her hand whilst talking.

The 'intimate gaze'

Look out for the eyes following the 'triangular formation': - eye to eye, then down to the mouth and chin, down to the rest of the body and back up to the eyes again in a triangular formation.A particular subtlety of female body language.

The pointing knee

When sitting down one knee is bent to allow the foot to be tucked under the opposite thigh. The knee point will be aimed at the person the woman is interested in. It is a relaxed, informal position.

The shoe fondle

If a woman crosses her legs and lets her shoe on the top leg hang off her foot pay attention - if she starts playing with the shoe, allowing it to slip on and off her foot then you're being given a clear message of interest.

The leg twine

Apparently many men consider this the most appealing sitting position for women. With one leg pressed against the other it appears to be extremely toned and, combined with the woman placing one hand on her thigh, gives a clear call for attention and probable interest.

Confident Public Speaking - no matter how shy you are!

In public speaking, it's not what you say it's how you say it and this makes all the difference. By following these simple tips you’ll be on the way towards transforming yourself into a confident and engaging public speaker no matter how shy you might be when you start out.

That Vital Preparation

There are two elements to your preparation:

  1. Your Content
  2. Yourself

Deciding what you are going to say is the easy part, but do make sure that you are very clear about the purpose of your speech. What message do you want to leave them with? What really can you come up with? Don’t try to feed them too much information at once and please don’t read any slides to them!. Stop from time to time to check their understanding and (if necessary) get their agreement

By far the most important is preparing yourself. When I say preparing “yourself “, I mean you need to feel comfortable being “you” in front of your audience, rather than a different person altogether. If you suffer from “stage fright” then try out some of the exercises available to help you in such situations.

If you are unable to engage with your audience in a relaxed and confident way, what you say becomes irrelevant – they won’t be listening!

You need to be able to develop an instant rapport with your audience. Once you’ve got that connection they are much more likely to listen to you.

Here are some rapport building suggestions:

Get there early:

Get there early and introduce yourself to your audience on an individual basis. Be interested in them as people (where do they work, live, travel from etc). You’ll get a much better response later on from a group who feel they already know you.

Find something that you have in common with your audience

Whether its childhood memories or a dislike of traffic police, you need to identify something other than the subject matter that you share with your audience. And something that you can use as a link to your opening .

Then ask them (something like) “Who else finds parking in the middle of town difficult”, raise your hand and you’ll find some of your audience will copy you. Then have a brief exchange with one or two of them on the subject you’ve just shared. They’ll all then see you as a real person rather than a “Public Speaker”.

Smile and make eye contact

It’s what you’d do if you were talking to an individual and public speaking is no different; so make brief eye contact with as many in the room as possible, looking all round the room, into the furthest corners and to the front row and back again. Catching people's eyes for a second will keep people interested and listening.

Your Entrance

Grab their attention straight away and you’ll give off an air of confidence:

  • Stand up straight
  • Keep your head held high
  • Look around at your audience
  • Make eye contact as you look around.

Your Position and Posture

Whether you are sitting or standing make sure that you are balanced with both feet on the floor. Standing or sitting with your weight to one side or legs crossed, gives the impression of being imbalanced which can lead to your audience thinking, sub-consciously, you are unsure of yourself and what you are saying. In a more traditional public speaking set up, leaning into or slightly over a podium or holding any notes tightly can make you seem nervous and unconvincing.

Your Tone and Gestures
Vary the speed and rhythm of your voice.

A monotonous voice will send the audience to sleep so allow your voice to rise and fall naturally during the delivery and inject some enthusiasm and emotion into your voice to convey the point. It’s not only infectious, but your enthusiasm will overshadow any shyness! Use arm and hand gestures to emphasis any points.

If you want the audience to agree with you open your arms in an expansive gesture. A downward gesture will reinforce the point you want to get across. Keep your voice slow - don't be tempted to speed up as you are getting to the end.

Keep your voice strong and clear and keep maintaining eye contact with the whole of the audience. Finish your speech with a hand outstretched 'over to you' gesture and a smile to indicate that you've finished speaking and that you expect a positive response from your audience.

If you’ve had reason to illustrate any points on a flip chart, putting the cap back on the pen, will also tell them that you’ve finished. Conversely, if you are asking questions and writing down their answers, leaving the top off the pen tells them that you are willing to accept more questions.

By adopting some of these ideas, your audience will feel that you've informed and entertained them. They'll remember you as a confident communicator rather than having attended a "stuffy" public speaking event.

From Failure to Success

imagine the worst outcome and ........... but visualize the best and who knows what will happen!

Success doesn't always show up on the bottom line.

I remember working with a particular client who was in the unenviable position of having to dismiss a long serving employee. He knew it was the correct decision, having agonised over it for some time. On the other hand he was quite proud of his low staff turnover and had a reputation for being a first class employer. A few days before the planned dismissal, when we discussed it, the client, normally brimming with confidence, told me he felt physically sick at the thought of the prospective meeting.

In his minds eye, he was obviously visualizing the meeting and imagining the difficulties. “When you think about it, do you feel like this all the time”, I asked. “No”, he said. “Since I know it’s the right decision, when I think of my decision making process, I get a warm feeling of relief”.

I suggested that he visualized himself (as if he were in a movie) after the forthcoming meeting, seeing what he saw and feeling how he felt (that warm feeling of relief – an amicable parting from the employee etc). “I already feel better”, he said.

I encouraged him to imagine that the meeting had already taken place and it had all worked out successfully. In fact for three mornings before the meeting, I sent a text message to his mobile simply saying “that warm feeling of relief”.

When I met up with him the day after, he explained how straight forward the meeting had been. The employee was looking to move on and had wanted to talk to his boss about this in any event.

My client had been able to make this switch from failure and anxiety to success and relief, merely by re- programming himself.

So can you!

But if you find visualization difficult, take a look at one of the cleverest ideas I’ve come across, developed by Australian Ryan Higgins. He describes it as the secret to faster manifesting (and there are some free videos to help you along the way)

Successful Attitude!

Creating a Successful Attitude

Did you know that your Attitude would determine your Success? That’s right; you can attain a Successful Attitude.

I’ll explain…

Everyone discusses Attitude. “Your Attitude will determine your Altitude”. This statement is so true because our attitude is a result of our focus.

Most people with wrong attitudes don’t even realize they have them. They use angry words, sarcasm or cynicism to create a desired response from others. They use their Attitude to rule and reign over those under their authority.

Children learn to use wrong Attitudes as weapons quite early in their life. Stomping their feet and screaming, a two year old can make a mother or father drop everything she or he is doing to respond and console an angry little boy or girl. The game works. Eventually in their lives, they begin to develop the opinion that their Attitude of anger can produce a desired result.

As parents, we must teach our children how to have a successful Attitude!

Behavior permitted Becomes Behavior Repeated…So, each of us often develop our Attitudes from childhood, right or wrong.

Your Attitude is the Behavior and Mood created by something you have chosen to focus upon. It is a viewpoint, a state of mind toward something.

Your Attitude is more powerful than your gifts and talents…Attitude is the powerful force that attracts others toward you or moves them away from you. Many gifted and talented people never experience the rewards of their skills because their Attitude makes them undesirable to be around.

Your Attitude is the force that determines whether you multiply or decrease, grow or die, attract or repel the company of other successful people.

You are responsible for changing your own Attitude! No one can change your Attitude, only you can do that for yourself.

When you change your Attitude, you will change the world around you. You can create a successful Attitude…

Any wrong Attitude is communicated through your posture, and by the way you walk. Have you ever been to the mall? Sure, you have! You can sense people’s attitudes by the way they walk; whether they are brisk, alive and vibrant or whether they are demoralized, discouraged and disappointed with life. The mood was created by something they have chosen to think about, meditate on and build their life around. Their attitude is evidenced by their body posture.

What you magnify in your mind is controlling your Attitude. If you meditate upon your own mistakes, you will be discouraged and self-critical. Eventually, that turns to an abnormal criticism of others as well. When a spouse focuses on the mistakes of their mate, their Attitude will become sarcastic and cynical. The same is true for all relationships in our lives.

Your Attitude is Attracting or Repelling the Right People into your Life.

A great example is from the book of Ruth, she was a servant. Her humble Attitude got the attention of Boaz. He instructed his servants to make it easier for her life. See, when you observe thankful and gracious people, something within you wants to be in their presence. Therefore, your attitude is determining what is coming toward you and what moves away from you. She demonstrated a successful Attitude and it caused her to be blessed!

Any wrong Attitude is a magnet for others of Like Rebellion and Anger.Watch a group of young people, a gang, for example. Typically, each gang member is angry at the same thing--authority. They are drawn to each other like moths to the light. Any wrong Attitude is a current attracting to the wrong people in your life. This compounds the consequences of your rebellion.

Your Attitude is affecting every relationship in your life. It determines whether good relationships grow or wither, shrivel and die like a flower in the desert heat. This is why it is so important to have a focus for having a Successful Attitude!

Your Attitude is Determining whether your Boss wants to give you a raise or terminate you. You are either making his or her goals happen or moving them away from his or her goals through your Attitude. You can be the most qualified in your position. However, your Attitude is the determining factor of your success! Your attitude is creating problems within the department or you are a joy and an asset. Anyone can learn skills but not everyone will develop a Successful Attitude. This is what sets you apart from the rest.

Your Attitude is determining whether your mate is anxious to come home from work or work overtime. What pictures are you planting in the mind of your mate? Or what are you, mate, focusing on? Everything is about perspective...

Your attitude toward your own life is deciding your own success or failure. If you choose to focus on your weaknesses only, you will develop a negative and self-critical spirit. It will devastate your life.

Recognize when other people are depositing a wrong Attitude into your own spirit. You are the only gate-keeper to your spirit. Visualize that you are the doorman. You can let them in or keep them OUT! You choose. Whatever your choice is the effect will be in your Attitude.

When you focus on worthy qualities in others, they will respond by looking for those qualities in YOU! You are often a mirror that affects how others react to you. So show off your new and improved Successful Attitude...

You must recognize people near you who have a wrong focus. You must guard the words they are speaking into your life. The words they are speaking are creating what you are feeling. This is the reason we must be careful of the company we keep.

Eliminate Unrealistic Goal-Setting that is birthing a bad Attitude in You. When you set unrealistic goals, it is frustrating.

I am the type of person always looking for a challenge. That has resulted in putting too much on my plate, and striving to accomplish what I set out to do. However, setting unrealistic goals for myself by having more than one project that requires a lot of time and planning has made me feel like a failure. Therefore, I adopted a wrong Attitude that I was not worthy, or smart enough, etc. In fact, none of that was true; it was setting unrealistic goals for me. Now that I understand, it is easier for me to be realistic and eliminate those negative feelings.

Wrong Attitude creates a loss of friends, job opportunities and incredible moments of Enthusiasm.

If we refuse to correct our wrong Attitude, you end up losing quality of life. You will never discover what you could have had, the people who would have added to your life, opportunities that would bless you and in return, you could be a blessing to others...

Everybody wants to be needed, the peace of being happy, truly happy within, all of this is the benefits from a good Attitude...

Be determined TODAY to CREATE a SUCCESSFUL ATTITUDE within yourself and watch your life change forever…

You need to remain thankful in your Attitude. Look around you and see what you are thankful to have in your life. Most of the time we focus on the need for more money but there is so much that money cannot buy; health and true happiness. For the millionaire with a terminal illness, he would trade all of his wealth for your health. Be thankful for all of the little things in life.

Think about what really matters in life. The fact that you can read this is something you should be grateful for, many people don’t have computers, cannot read, and some don’t have their freedom…

Success quotes guide your heart to discover the true meaning of success

One of the most important success quotes you'll ever hear or read comes from a spiritual teacher. In fact, many of the most profound statements about success come from spiritual teachers. Let's start with a simple success quote:

All that we are is a result of what we have thought. ---Buddha

What the Buddha is basically saying is that what we think about determines how we live our lives. Who we are as a person is determined by the thoughts we think and the thoughts we choose to focus upon.

If we want to create success from home, we have to focus our thoughts and visualize ourselves being successful from our home.

If we feed ourselves with uplifting, inspiring, success quotes, we increase the likelihood we'll achieve success.

Yet, what is the real meaning of success for you?

Have you spent any time thinking about what true success means for you?

Have you formed your own beliefs about success or simply follow what the popular media and the masses consider success to be?

The clearer you are about what success means to you, the greater likelihood you'll be successful and will be able to die in peace.

Most people go to their graves regretting things they haven't done. p.28, The Lazy Person's Guide to Success by Ernie J. Zelinski

The more you live by values that uplift your spirit, the more the following success quote is easier to adhere to: Always do the right and honest thing, however more difficult it may appear.p. 124, The Lazy Person's Guide to Success by Ernie J. Zelinski

Earn your money and success through service to others and not at the expense of others. p.126, ibid.

Be more attentive to what successful people have to say about all the opportunity around you. p. 160, Ibid.

Abundance isn't about the amount of money you have; it's being happy with what you have. p. 194, ibid.

True abundance is not about gathering more things, it's about touching the place in us that is connected to the divine source of abundance, so that we know what we need in the moment will be provided.--Mary Manin Morrissey

Success quotes can inspire you to risk, because you can always start over again

There are many women and men gaining success by working at home. People who seek success from home have a different set of values that drive them. As important as financial success is for these people, they seek more from life than just financial rewards.

I love reading entrepreneur success stories. I know how challenging it can be to create, launch, build and manage a successful business. The more a person has healed her emotional wounds and is attracting abundance by raising her vibration, the greater likelihood for success.

Successful people often read success quotes to inspire them to succeed and to listen to other people's angles of vision about success.

Other successful people make it a habit to eat healthily and to care for their bodies, minds and spirits.

Sometimes they celebrate by eating a success meal, which is a special meal where you and a loved one share a favorite meal being grateful for all you've been gifted with.

Often times people express poems of gratitude to show their appreciation for what they've received in their lives.

It's amazing how a simple success quote or poem of gratitude will increase your vibration to attract even more abundance and success. And it costs nothing.

A famous quote about success is: "Everything worth doing is worth doing well." Have you ever stopped to really examine this success quote?

Ernie Zelinksi, author of The Joy of Not Working feels that many things don't really need to be done well. As long as they get done, that's what counts. Is he right?

Read the following inspiring success quotes to raise your success vibration to activate the law of attraction.

Success quotes are highly useful words that uplift the spirit and raise your energy level, helping you to attract what it is your heart most yearns.

If you'd like another source of quotes on success, a wealth of inspiration is at your fingertips.

The Most Important Success Quote that Leads to Success

You must take actions to live your dreams.

Actions determine whether you're going towards or away from what your heart most desires.

If you want your life to read like a success quote, it's imperative that you go into action rather than just thinking about what you want.

Actions produce results. Results feed your spirit. When your spirit thrives, your heart dances a jig and your world is at peace.

First come the thoughts, then action must follow your thoughts if you want success. Quotes from famous women and men alike all stress the need for consistent actions.

Yet, often consistent actions are impossible because of either sabotaging patterns of behavior or limiting beliefs.

That's where EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) can come to the rescue. EFT is like emotional acupuncture without the needles.

It has an impressive track record and often works when nothing else does.

I've been testing EFT for over 2 years and have seen some remarkable results, both personally and in clients and associates. (The above link takes you to a weekly column I write, Make Your Life Precious, where I detail the removal of a 24-year-old trauma that has made it challenging to live up to the success quotes I read).

If you need assistance, consider using my skills to serve as your success coach or as someone to help you clear some of your limiting beliefs so you can raise your vibration and change the law of attraction to work more in your favor.

A Success Poem Inspiring You to Make Your Life Precious

A success poem follows that is meant to show you the possibilities of feeling good about yourself. The secret of law of attraction is to raise your vibration.

When you make your life precious, you activate the secret of the law of attraction as you become more in tune with the natural laws of the universe.

Most of us spend so much time beating ourselves up, we forget the need to accept and honor ourselves when we're feeling good about ourselves.

When is the last time you made yourself a success meal? A meal just to honor and be thankful for all the success you already have?

Or have you written any poems of gratitude or gone on a gratitude walk to share your thankfulness for the abundance already existing in your life?

The more you express gratefulness, the more you attract success, and your life becomes like a success poem.

When you make your life precious, you are a living example of a success poem come to life.

Writing a success poem about yourself isn't arrogance or being a braggart. It's simply recognizing our good qualities and seeing how we've healed. It makes our life more precious and is worth doing.

I wrote the following success poem in 2003. I was feeling comfortable with myself, content with my life, happy with how I was caring for myself.

I was more and more my own person. I was listening less to the masses and mass media. And my self-image was authentic. Didn't have a need for self-esteem improvement, as mine was soaring.

I was trusting myself and learning how to raise self-esteem. It was as though I was a living success quote.

In other words, the following success poem shows how good I was feeling about myself and my abilities to make my life worthwhile.

It was around this time, or shortly before, that I studied to become a life and success coach. I had helped people for years in the role of a personal development coach.

Basically, I listened, asked them questions, and offered feedback for their consideration, which seemed to come effortless and naturally to me. I never thought I'd someday get paid for being a success and abundance coach.

I hope you enjoy the following success poem called

Making My Life Precious

When I carry myself as a jewel cradled gently and securely
in outstretched hands two feet from my heart, I care for myself.

A soft smile rips through every fiber of my being.

I am nurtured and safeguarded in a womb of love.

My bounce carries me into a friendly world, for I befriend myself as no one else can.

I shower love upon myself, some might say selfishly, yet wise ones congratulate me.

I nourish a deep, intimate relationship with myself and then others.

I am my best friend.

I honor, respect, and accept my needs as mine. And I learn to take care of them as no one else can.

I seek help as needed, whether it be a massage, a warm shoulder, a piece of vegan chocolate cake with thick frosting that melts sensuously between spaced teeth.

As I attune myself to needs crying for attention,
I walk tall, head high, spine straight.

My whole being dances to the music of my heart and recognizes that my love for myself allows me to serve others.

I walk or run or fly away from situations dangerous to my spirit and soul.

I engage less in the game to please others and recognize more when
I flee my own body to be a nice guy and go along with the crowd because
I am fogging out and that is the easiest route.

Now, I strive to choose what I want from life, moment by moment,
without of course knowing for certain what life will give me unannounced, unasked for, unanticipated. That is another story.

I remind myself, "This is your precious life, Harvey, how are you spending it"?

When I know what I want, whether it be goals or feelings or tastes of being,
I improve my chances for present moment to moment contentment,
which allows me to die any given time, knowing I have lived.

Can you die this moment, at peace with your life?

If no, mount your horse and ride towards the sunset of your dreams, wants, desires so your heart can content-mentize itself now.

I look into the mirror of life and am grateful for its reflection.

Universal Laws of Attraction

What are the universal laws of attraction? Like attracts like.

Scientifically like attracts like through magnetism, the electromagnetic field. Quantum Physics is bringing the gap between science and spirituality. Showing us that even in science there is some mystery and that some of the tenants held to be spiritual are now being theorized by scientists

In a Nutshell, the Universal Law of Attraction says that the thoughts you think and the feelings you have associated with these thoughts cause vibrations that attract people, things and events into our lives. The steps seem pretty easy.

  •     Know what you want and why.
  •     Ask the universe for it.
  •     Feel and behave as if the object of your desire is on its way.
  •     Let go and be open to receiving it the outcome but not attached to it.

Simple right?  “Ask and ye shall receive” or from a psychological point of view it’s a version of the self-fulfilling prophecy.  So it’s easy - WHY aren’t we all living the lives we want?

Values, Beliefs, Negative Thinking and Habits.

We believe we don’t deserve the life we want

We have limiting and conflicting ideas and thoughts about what we “should” do and not do.

We aren’t consistent; we have bad habits that we don’t want to stop doing.
We’re consumed with wanting it and being frustrated in not having it and seeing the “facts” of our “real” lives and how different they are from the “fantasies” in our heads.

Whatever you believe is your truth. And change, even success, can be frightening. We often want to predict and control how we’re going to get from where we are today to where we desire to be. And we want to follow others who have gone there before in the hopes that there’s a short cut for us. Maybe if I do exactly what this other person did I’ll have the exact same results…

My journey with the Universal Laws of Attraction

We CAN learn from other people’s journeys and we can be supported and encouraged when we hear of others successes. But ultimately, you’re success and your definition of what success even looks like - is up to you. Other people, including myself, can help you but only you can take consistent action to change your life.

As I’ve been studying and putting the universal laws of attraction into my life, I’ve found some things that have been very helpful on my journey.

I started with the book “Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting : The Astonishing Power of Feelings” by Lynn Grabhorn. She explains the law of attraction really well and her writing style is entertaining.

Next was “Ask and it’s Given” by Jerry Hicks and Esther Hicks . Have you ever stood in front of a section in a bookstore and known there was a book there in the stacks that you really needed to read. And you pick up dozens of books and you say to yourself “Well it sounds really interesting but it’s just not exactly what I’m looking for right now.” That’s what happened to me. And when I finally gave up - I knew I wasn’t going to find what I was looking for that day. That’s when I saw this book and it really. Then I started listening to Esther Hicks audio tapes, and I even found a friend that worked with me who had a bunch of the CDs and was willing to loan them to me.

This year, the single best thing I’ve encountered working with the law of attraction is the Wealth Beyond Reason program. Bob Doyle started this program and it’s really worthwhile. The program contains not only the single best book I’ve ever read in my life “A Happy Pocketful of Money” but also a tremendously large group of resources. But what I liked best about the Wealth Beyond Reason program was it addresses our barriers and gives us ways to overcome them. I truly feel blessed to have stumbled onto this program and I plan to be incorporating into my life for years to come.

What is success?

What does it mean to you? Is it wealth & fame? Is it having a happy family life? Is it a feeling of contentment and continual growth?

This is a illusive word. And means many different things to different people. It has been said that fulfillment is a journey and not a destination but let’s face it, sometimes you want the destination — the house, the car, the relationship, the health.

The dictionary definition is:

(1) the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors and

(2) the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like. Both of those definitions are about the destination.

The word itself comes from the Latin word “successus “meaning an advance, succession, happy outcome.”

I’m going to define success as the attainment of fulfillment
in the three primary areas of life:

        Relationships;
        Health; and
        Career.

If you are happy with where you are and where you feel you are going in your relationships with your health and inside your career (which encompass your financial health), then most people would say “you’re successful” and most people would feel fairly happy if they are satisfied inside these three areas of life.

Let’s briefly explore these three areas.

Relationships First we have a variety of relationship. We have physical relationships. We have family, friends, business partners, co-workers, bosses, employees, doctors, companies (insurance, utilities etc.) and groups we belong to. We have psychological/spiritual relationships with ourselves and the various aspects of our psyche, society, God/religion and science.

Health Physical, Mental and Spiritual

If you are happy with where you are and where you feel you are going in your relationships with your health and inside your career (which encompass your financial health), then most people would say “you’re successful” and most people would feel fairly happy if they are satisfied inside these three areas of life.

Let’s briefly explore these three areas.

Relationships

First we have a variety of relationship.  We have physical relationships.  We have family, friends, business partners, co-workers, bosses, employees, doctors, companies (insurance, utilities etc.) and groups we belong to.  We have psychological/spiritual relationships with ourselves and the various aspects of our psyche, society, God/religion and science.

Career

I look at career as including work and money.
Money.  Your finances, whether you can pay your bills easily, or whether it’s a struggle.

Whether you are in difficult debt or manageable debt.  And whether you have additional income for the things you want that would add joy or prestige to your life.  Your ability to be able to give financially to others.

Work.

Work is what you do, your physical and mental activities that encompass you day.  They include things you do to:

    Make money
To Serve and/or take care of others
    To take care of yourself
As a means of growth or self expression
    Have fun

Yes, I include play inside career as I think our best careers are the ones in which we do satisfying activities that we enjoy that make us money.  As Einstein said “If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.”

So when looking at your life and how to make yourself happier and more satisfied — these are the tree areas on which to focus.

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.  — Robert Collier:

I believe the first thing to do when evaluating your life is to look at your priorities. How would you rank these areas of your life? What order would you put them in and what level of satisfaction would you feel you had.

For myself, if I’m honest, I have difficulty ordering the three groups. So I break them down and order them as follows: For myself, if I’m honest, I have difficulty ordering the three groups.  So I break them down and order them as follows:

Area Satisfaction Level (10 being the best ever)

Family :
8 out of 10.  I can always see ways my life can improve so I’ll seldom give myself a 10.

Career:
5 out of 10.  There are a bunch of things I’d like to improve here but still there are many things that are going well.

Relationships (Other):
7 out of 10.  Pretty darn happy here.

Health :
6.5 out of 10.  I rank this last in priority so it gets less attention and consequently could use some more work (exercise-diet you know the drill).  Of course, when I’m sick or in big time crisis this moves up in priority

I believe if I could claim an 8 in all of these areas. I’d call myself successful and be pretty darn happy with my life. Take a look at your life and you may be surprised at how well you are doing.

Every day, I make a grateful list and usually the list is full of people in my life that I’m grateful for.

And after I did this exercise I can see why. And the things I’m really working on in my life are in the areas that are less satisfying. So, it’s a good measure as to if you are on the path you want to be on and how you might like to change it.

Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, “What’s in it for me?” - Brian Tracy
